Operations

All editorial media must register at the FMI2012 News Center upon arriving at the Dallas Convention Center. Here you can obtain your official badge – which provides entry to FMI2012 & US Food Showcase, co-located with AMI and UFPA – and updated show information. The News Center is equipped with computers with Internet connections, work tables, exhibitor press kits and a day board announcing daily press events.

News Media Complimentary Registration Policy
To receive a complimentary news media registration for an FMI convention or conference, you must be a qualified media representative from one of the following news organizations:

  • Trade Publication
  • Newspaper
  • Consumer, Business and News Publication
  • Radio Station
  • Television Station
  • Wire Service
  • Online News Organization

Accredited titles, generally, are:

  • Editors
  • Reporters
  • Photographers
  • Editorial writers
  • Camera crews
  • Publishers
  • Associate publishers

Materials that verify credentials are:

  • A police press pass with photo and unexpired date
  • Listing on current masthead of legitimate publication with matching driver’s license
  • The following will require a verifying phone call to the news organization’s office:
    • Business card with an editorial title.
    • A press card issued by individual’s organization
    • A letter from an editor, publisher or producer verifying the individual’s professional identity.

The following do not qualify:

  • People with marketing or advertising titles
  • Trade, business, consumer newsletters that are association or agency publications for their own members or constituency; in-company or internal corporate publications or newsletters
  • Representatives from directories or reference books.
  • Freelancers unless they can prove they are assigned to the event by an accredited news gathering organization.
  • Commercial photographers assigned to the event by an exhibitor or any other organization that is not a legitimate news gathering organization.
  • Public relations account executives.
  • Trade association representatives who want to cover the show for their industry.
  • Individuals who are shooting “infomercials” — which are paid advertisements.
  • Publishers or staff people of publications that have limited circulation in area hotels describing entertainment and sightseeing possibilities in the local town.

Note: FMI is solely responsible for determining if individuals qualify for complimentary registration. FMI reserves the right to deny complimentary registration for any FMI conference or convention if it so chooses.
